North Yorkshire Honeybees

Our hives are home to the dark, native British black bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) A hardy strain perfectly adapted to the climate and conditions here in North Yorkshire.

Black bees are calm, resilient, and excellent foragers, thriving even in cooler, changeable weather. They build strong colonies with good honey yields and are known for their ability to overwinter successfully with minimal intervention.

We’re proud to raise and support these bees locally, helping to strengthen their genetics and preserve a piece of our natural heritage.

We produce a limited number of locally raised nucs each season from our strong, healthy colonies of North Yorkshire black bees (Apis mellifera mellifera).

Each nuc includes:

A laying queen, bred from our proven stock

5–6 frames with brood in all stages, food, and bees

Ready to transfer into your hive and build into a full colony

Our nucs are well-suited to the local climate, calm to handle, and bred for resilience and productivity
